My little Lori Smith blocks get finished up quickly when I had a bunch prepped and ready to go! I got 3 more done, and there are only 3 more to go!
And now I have to get going on some projects with deadlines.....
A certain young lady who hangs out at our house is having a graduation, so she's going to need a quilt.
this is all I've got so far...
I'm waiting for a plan to percolate....hope it comes soon, I want this to be done by 6/15ish.
Got any ideas?

(mmm, I wonder why I'm singing a BonJovi song all the sudden)
I like to have a couple of things prepped so I have handwork for waiting for appts, car trips, etc. This week we made a trek to Long Island, both ways in the daylight! So I was able to get to some of my little Lori Smith blocks.
And now I'm halfway done with this little quilt
these ar 6" blocks, so they make the perfect little car project. We're heading on a little road trip this weekend, thank goodness I have the rest of the blocks prepped!

Well of course I took the Gwen Marston Applique class when she was here on the East Coast. it was Fan-tab-u-lous!!!
And definitely opened my eyes to a new way of looking at applique. I admit, I'm a little Type A, so it's going to take some retraining to let go of some of the "all leaves must be the same size and shape on this quilt" rules, but Gwen's way of approaching applique (and life) seems WAY less stressful. So......I'm in.
I've never been a big needle turn person, because I completely obsess over making sure that I was turning exactly to the drawn line. Well, NO MORE! with Gwen's way of doing it, you just cut out our shape "a little larger" and needle turn your seam allowance, at will! So two of the same leaves don't always come out the same size, but that's ok. Did our quilting ancestors worry about everything being the same? No they did not.
Here's my class sample....all stitched up:

oh nothing makes you feel more like spring than some bright colors....and a layer of pollen.
But let's just stick with the bright colors for now.
So I pulled out a flimsy, a UFO, an item on the Wanna list to work on, and quilted it right up. It's about 24 x 42, so not a giant feat, but one in the done column.
I didn't feel like a binding would work on this one, so I faced it instead.
so much better, don't you think?
This was a good warm up for quilting the Granny Square quilt, just in time for the Christening this week....
omg! 2 finishes on one week? I better slow down, I might hurt myself!

Pennies from Heaven is my first BOM. I have mixed feelings about it.
I love the quilt, and I certainly did not have the wool needed for this, but OY! my type A side will not let me fall behind. I love/hate when the new package comes each month.
is it just me?

it's starting to look like something, right?
Can't wait to get it all together. Wonder if Toby would send me the whole thing so I won't be tortured anymore?????

it looks like on my travels thru the blog-dom I seem to have caught a fever. You know the one....Granny Square fever!
Since I needed a baby gift for a little girl, this seemed like the perfect little quilt and I get to use more stash!
these blocks were superquick to put together, deciding on colors took longer than the sewing I think!
So some basting is in order this weekend and then over to the machine.....this one has a looming deadline, otherwise I might have done some big stitch hand quilting on it. Oh well, maybe the next one...wait what?
Hope this fever passes before I find myself making another one, instead of working on other deadline projects!

Well, of course I had to jump right to my Wanna list, instead of the projects I am supposed to be working on with deadlines and such.
A new project on the list is a small Lori Smith pattern that I bought at Houston from the most talented Lori Smith!
it finishes at 18" x 24" , so those are some little tiny blocks/pieces in there.
So the first 3 are done for my little version:
These little blocks are the perfect carry-along project. So I better get prepping so I have more to carry-along.
Looking at these blocks and my affinity for blues, I'm starting to understand why my blue stash always seems to be lacking! Maybe a shopping trip to Lancaster is in order?

Has been more than a little disconnected. Do you know that feeling? It's a mixture of stress, sadness, exhaustion with a little dose of funk. But the sun is shining and green is returning and so I am diving back into color and joy and maybe I'll get crazy and even do some spring cleaning!!
But first a little organization is in order. I'm a big list person and for this we pull out the big guns....the mother of all Post-its, the poster sized! And now I have 2 lists posted: the Gotta list, the things I've got to get done and most have a deadline and the Wanna list, the things I want to get done next, some UFOs and some are new ones.
Now I can see (and can't avoid) the stuff that needs to get done and focus on that first, that is, of course, til someone drags me to a show or shop and gets me going on a whole new project!!
In the midst of my funk, I did manage to get a few things done, even without a list...
The last Sister challenge was to use a tool from your tool stash that you had never used (you might have one or two of these two!). I went to the top of the pile and used a ruler that I bought in Houston. See my mistake was to walk slowly past Deb Tucker's booth, her energy and fun just pull you in and you end up buying her rulers.
This tool was GREAT!!! you make the whole LeMoyne Star from strips, no cutting pieces with pointy ends on them. The instructions were very clear and easy to follow, but a word of advice....you will NEED to read these instructions, no looking at the pictures only, as I have been known to do.
And lickety split, I had a little quilt with 9 little LeMoynes and no angst.
And no fabric was purchased in the pursuit of this quilt! Maybe I'll try a bigger quilt with a couple different sizes....oh wait, is that on the list?

I'm caught up on my Pennie from Heaven BOM!! very exciting!!
I'm really liking the wool applique on this Block of the Month, it goes very quickly, I guess because the prep is super quick.
And now my blocks are starting to look like something:
mmm, I might even start to work on the setting triangles if I get ambitious.
But I better get working on the Sister's Challenge. Our current challenge for our little group is to use a tool from the tool or technique that you have never used before----cause you know we call have a stash of tools too!
So I've been trying out a few, now I just have to pick the project and get going on it!
