So the Sisters headed south to Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza on Saturday. It moved back to the Philly area from Harrisburg this year, and we did our part to welcome it back! We packed our lunch, packed the car, visited our friends at the bank and off we go....
It was gi-normous!!!! Ok, it's not Houston, but miles (it seemed like) of rows of vendors and 600 or so quilts. Of course, having been to other Mancuso shows, I had seen some of the quilt before, but there were oodles that I had not, and some wonderful special exhibits.
I like to pick one thing to really focus on when I am looking at the quilts each time I go to a show. This time it was details. Quilters are adding such wonderful little details, some funny, some hidden in plain site but all add to the overall beauty to varying degrees.
The queen of funny little detail is Linda Cantrell. She had a new quilt featuring Sun Bonnet Sue. There were so many people around I could never get a picture of the whole quilt but you get the idea.....

People stood there and stood there, trying to name all of the movies depicted in the quilt

The detail work in every one of these frames is just amazing and hysterical. That SunBonnet Sue is quite the actress!
Here's another quilt that I just loved, the quilting is beautiful and details just bring the design to life:

And here's one from a Japanese quilter (I think). At first glance, you think the fabric is printed with some the designs, then you get up close and see she added them with yarns and other embellishments:

Needless to say, there were some purchases.....
And we had a great tailgate lunch out in the parking lot (if you arrived around 1, you might have seen us!).
But the best part of this show was the company, not just the ones I came with, but the many guild friends we met up, and new friends we met ......what a great way to spend the day, and recharge the quilting batteries!
Hugs and Stitches!
